Montreal Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin has been taken to hospital for further evaluation after a shot from a teammate hit him in the head during Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Mid-way through the first period, a shot from Canadiens defenceman Brett Kulak struck Drouin, who was standing in front of the Red Wings goal. Drouin was able to skate off the ice under his own power but immediately went down the tunnel to the Canadiens’ dressing room. The Canadiens officially ruled him out for the remainder of the game at the start of the second period.
Drouin only registered 2:27 in ice time before the injury.
After the game, teammate Josh Anderson told reporters that Drouin had returned to the Bell Centre from the hospital and appeared to be ok. Head coach Dominique Ducharme said Drouin would be re-evaluated Wednesday but early exams were encouraging.
The 26-year-old leads all Canadiens skaters with seven points through 10 games entering play Tuesday.
