Canadiens' Gallagher fined $2.5K for roughing Rangers' Goodrow

Check this out, as Canadiens' Brendan Gallagher sucker punches Rangers' Barclay Goodrow right off the faceoff, after the two were exchanging words, and picking up 12 minutes in penalties for his actions.

Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher has been fined $2,500 for roughing New York Rangers forward Barclay Goodrow on Tuesday night, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced Wednesday.

The incident occurred during the final seconds of Montreal's 3-2 loss, when both players tussled after jawing at each other during a neutral zone faceoff. After the puck dropped, Gallagher proceeded to push Goodrow in the face. He was given two minutes for roughing and 10-minute misconduct on the play.

When he addressed the media Wednesday after receiving his fine, Gallagher downplayed the incident.

"There was some acting going on there. A lot of players have too much pride to act like that," he said, according to Sportsnet's Eric Engels.

"I've taken several punches in the head," he added, noting he knows what it takes for one to knock someone down.

The Canadiens are currently seventh in the Atlantic Division with a 4-12-2 record, Gallagher has eight points through 17 games.
