Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jake Allen has been ruled out for at least a week, according to head coach Dominique Ducharme, after suffering an injury against the Boston Bruins.
During the final commercial break of the first period on Wednesday, cameras caught Allen discussing something with a trainer before leaving the ice. Samuel Montembeault replaced him in the net with the Bruins leading 2-0.
Allen’s specific injury wasn’t immediately known, but he appeared to be slow to get up after the second Bruins goal — a shot from Brad Marchand that beat Allen five-hole.
Cayden Primeau was recalled from the taxi squad ahead of the Canadiens’ matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.
Ducharme also confirmed that defencemen Alexander Romanov and Corey Schueneman will replace Chris Wideman (suspension) and Sami Niku on the blue line, while centre Rem Pitlick draws in for Cedric Paquette.
Pitlick, 24, was claimed off waivers by the Canadiens from the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday. He has six goals and five assists in 20 games this season.
