Sam Montembeault will make his return between the pipes on Tuesday.
The Montreal Canadians have announced that Montembeault has been recalled from the Laval Rocket to start against the Florida Panthers in Sunrise.
The goalie who started the season as the Canadiens' first option was sent to the AHL on a conditioning stint on Dec. 16 that could not last for more than 14 days.
While there, the 29-year-old started in two games and posted a 2.53 goals-against average and .904 save percentage. Both games resulted in a loss.
In the NHL, the Becancour, Que., native has managed a 5-6-1 record with a 3.65 goals-against average and .857 save percentage.
His last start in the NHL came on Dec. 2 when he struggled in a 5-2 loss to the Senators. On Dec. 9, he was brought in to relieve Jakub Dobes and surrendered three goals over just 13 shots.
Both goalies in Montreal's tandem have struggled this season, prompting rookie Jacob Fowler to be called up from the AHL for a chance to turn things around.
The Canadiens will play the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Follow the action on Sportsnet+.
