Montreal Canadiens goalie Jake Allen pulled himself from Wednesday’s game against the Boston Bruins with an apparent injury.
The Canadiens said in the second period Allen would not return.
During the final commercial break of the first period, cameras caught Allen on camera discussing something with a trainer before leaving the ice. Samuel Montembeault replaced him in the net with the Bruins leading 2-0.
Allen’s specific injury wasn’t immediately known, but he appeared to be slow to get up after the second Bruins goal — a shot from Brad Marchand that beat Allen five-hole.
The 31-year-old was playing in his first game since Dec. 14 due to a stint in COVID-19 protocols and the fact a number of Canadiens games have been postponed in recent weeks.
Allen has a 5-15-2 record in 23 starts this season, with a .903 save percentage.
