The Montreal Canadiens are down another forward.
Forward Jake Evans was ruled out for the remainder of Thursday's game against the Washington Capitals early in the third period, the team announced.
There was no further update on Evans' status provided after the game.
Evans was on the receiving end of a huge hit from Capitals forward Tom Wilson with just over five minutes left in the second period.
Wilson caught Evans up high as the Canadiens forward was trying to clear the puck from his own end. The Capitals were able to keep the puck in the zone and immediately scored on a Jakob Chychrun slapshot.
No penalty was called on the play.
Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis wasn't a fan of the hit.
"I just thought it was high," St. Louis said to reporters after the game. "I thought he came from a long distance and high."
Evans returned to play one shift after the hit before exiting the game for good.
The 29-year-old forward entered Thursday's game with three goals and three assists in 19 games this season.
It's another blow to the Canadiens' forward depth, as they are already without regular forwards Alex Newhook and Patrik Laine, who are both dealing with long-term injuries.
