The Montreal Canadiens have a new defenceman who has put ink to paper.
The team announced Friday that Luke Mittelstadt has signed a two-year, entry-level contract beginning next season.
The 23-year-old has also signed a one-year, one-way AHL contract to join the Laval Rocket for the remainder of this season.
Mittelstadt played 36 games in 2025-26 with the University of Minnesota, posting two goals and 19 assists to lead all Gophers blue-liners in goals, assists and points. He served as one of the team captains.
Over his 152 NCAA games, he recorded 80 points (11 goals and 69 assists).
Mittelstadt was drafted by the Canadiens as the 197th overall pick in 2023.
