Montreal Canadiens captain Shea Weber has been fined $5,000 by the NHL Department of Player Safety for slashing Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.
The fine is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.
The incident occurred at 16:32 of the third period when Weber slashed Kucherov in the back of the leg in front of the Canadiens net. Weber was not penalized for the play.
The Lightning defeated the Canadiens 5-1 in Game 1 of the series. Game 2 goes Wednesday night in Tampa.
