Montreal Canadiens defenceman Arber Xhekaj exited Thursday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights after suffering an upper-body injury, the team announced.
Xhekaj, 22, appeared to suffer the injury during the second period when he took a big hit from Golden Knights forward Ivan Barbashev right into the boards. Xhekaj appeared to be dealing with discomfort in his left shoulder immediately after and subsequently headed to the locker room.
The Hamilton, Ont., native headed into Thursday's game with a goal and two assists over 16 appearances this season.
Xhekaj's 2022-23 season was cut short in February after he underwent surgery on his right shoulder.
