The NHL's hits leader appears ready to return to action.
The Vancouver Canucks activated forward Kiefer Sherwood from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game against the Detroit Red Wings, the team announced.
Sherwood, 29, last played on Jan. 24 against the Edmonton Oilers when he was forced to exit the game midway through the second period. He was then placed on IR with an undisclosed injury.
The Columbus, Ohio native signed a two-year, $3-million deal with Vancouver in July. In 47 games with the Canucks this season, he has 21 points (13 goals and eight assists) and a league-leading 270 hits.
Sherwood might not be the only new face in the lineup, as four players the Canucks acquired in two trades on Friday could also make their Vancouver debut on Sunday. Filip Chytil, Drew O'Connor and Marcus Pettersson are all expected to slot into the lineup against the Red Wings, while defenceman Victor Mancini will be more of a game-time call, per head coach Rick Tocchet.
Sherwood told Tocchet he is ready to play, but will also be a game-time decision.
