Filip Chytil can't catch a break.
The Vancouver Canucks centre, who has a long history with head injuries, took a puck to the face during Wednesday's practice and had to leave the ice early.
Head coach Adam Foote said Chytil will have X-rays to determine the severity of the injury. According to Foote, a puck deflected off a skate and then the glass before it struck Chytil in the cheek.
Chytil has already missed time twice this season due to head injuries. The first injury came in October when he suffered a concussion and was sidelined for three months. Chytil returned to the lineup in mid-January but after only 12 games was re-injured during a game against the Utah Mammoth. He also dealt with concussions earlier in his career as a member of the New York Rangers.
"From the beginning, it was very hard, because I was hopeful that I can manage to play all 82 games, but it wasn't the case …" Chytil told reporters in January. "Sometimes it's the days like this, the last two years, that have been very hard for myself and for my wife, for my family, especially. I missed so many events, I missed so many games in the NHL, now I'm gonna miss the Olympics as well. So it sucks, but it is what it is."
