The Vancouver Canucks have signed forward Jake Virtanen to a two-year deal with an average annual value of $2.55 million, the team announced Thursday.

Virtanen, 24, was a restricted free agent. He'll be an RFA with arbitration rights when this two-year deal expires.

“Jake has continued to make progress on his two-way game and remains a contributor offensively, using his speed and size to generate chances,” Canucks general manager Jim Benning said in a release from the team. “We look forward to him taking additional steps in his growth this year to help our team be successful.”

Vancouver drafted Virtanen sixth overall in 2014. This past season he posted career highs in goals (18), assists (18) and points (36) while skating in 69 regular season games.

In the post-season, Virtanen scored twice and added an assist in 16 games, while dishing out 36 hits.
