The Vancouver Canucks are working to lock up their leading goal-scorer this season, but there is work still to be done.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Hockey Night in Canada's "Saturday Headlines" segment that Vancouver has made a new offer to forward Kiefer Sherwood. However, a gap between the two sides still remains.
"Both sides did talk this week, I still think, however, there is a gap in where Sherwood would like to be and what the Canucks are willing to do," Friedman said.
Sherwood, 30, is a pending unrestricted free agent who leads the Canucks with 17 goals in 40 games this season.
In his first season with the Canucks in 2024-25, Sherwood set the record for most hits in an NHL season with 384.
The Columbus native made his NHL debut with the Anaheim Ducks back in 2018-19.
Over 305 career games with the Canucks, Ducks, Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators, Sherwood has 60 goals and 59 assists.
