Ryan Johnson found his replacement.
The Vancouver Canucks announced Thursday that they have named Richard Seeley the general manager of the Abbotsford Canucks, and he will serve as assistant general manager to Johnson.
“Besides knowing the game of hockey inside and out, (Seeley) is a great communicator, goes to work every day with an open mind and sets his players up for success by creating an environment that tries to eliminate any excuse that would stop them from making progress," Johnson said in a statement released by the team. "Rich understands our values and vision, and I believe his mindset and mentality will fit in nicely with what we are trying to establish with our organization in both Abbotsford and Vancouver.”
Johnson previously led the AHL club from 2017 to 2026 prior to his promotion to Canucks general manager on May 14.
Seeley spent the past eight seasons with the AHL's Ontario Reign, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings. He led the team to a record-setting season in 2025-26, winning the regular-season Pacific Division title.
Seeley is yet another hire for Johnson as the first-time GM works to fill out his front office alongside co-presidents of hockey operations Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
