Vancouver Canucks star centre Elias Pettersson will miss Sunday night's contest with an upper-body injury, the team announced. He's listed as day-to-day.

When or how the injury occurred is not yet clear. Pettersson missed an optional game skate this morning, to which head coach Bruce Boudreau cited as "just maintenance." Pettersson has played in all 59 Canucks games up to this point.

The 23-year-old, who re-signed with the club on a three-year, $22.05-million in the off-season, has 42 points in the 2021-22 campaign -- a decrease in production compared to his first three NHL seasons.

The Canucks are 3-1-1 in their last five games, and just three points out of a playoff spot after a dismal start to the season.
