It was not an ideal start for the Vancouver Canucks.
Starting goaltender Kevin Lankinen was given the pull just six minutes into the first period after allowing three goals on six shots. He was replaced by Nikita Tolopilo.
The Canucks appeared to be off to the races after first-year defenceman Tom Willander scored his third of the season just over a minute into the game.
But goals from hometown kid Macklin Celebrini, William Eklund and Tyler Toffoli in just over four minutes ended Lankinen's night early.
The Canucks would go on to lose 5-2, with Tolopilo making 25 stops on the 27 shots he faced.
With No. 1 goalie Thatcher Demko undergoing season-ending hip surgery, Lankinen is once again the de facto starting goalie — a position he held for much of last season as well.
In 28 appearances this season prior to Tuesday, Lankinen owns a .884 save percentage and 3.44 goals-against average.
Tolopilo, meanwhile, has now appeared in seven games. In his six prior to Tuesday, he has a .881 save percentage and 3.98 goals-against average.
