The Washington Capitals have signed defenceman Cameron Schilling to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Saturday.

Schilling will earn $700,000 in the NHL and $365,000 in the AHL. The 32-year-old played in 54 games with the AHL's Manitoba Moose last season, finishing second among defencemen on the team in points with 24.

The defenceman returns to the Capitals, who originally signed the Carmel, Ind., native as a college free agent back in 2012. He has appeared in 10 career NHL games and registered one point.
