The Washington Capitals just got a lot bigger.
Six-foot-seven defenceman Vincent Desharnais signed a four-year, $16.8-million contract with the club, the Capitals announced on Wednesday.
Desharnais, 30, spent last season with the San Jose Sharks, scoring once and adding six assists in 53 games.
The right-shot blue-liner from Laval, Que., is entering his fifth NHL season and has already appeared with four teams, including the Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins and Sharks.
He was selected by the Oilers in the seventh round of the 2016 draft.
