Washington Capitals defenceman Alexander Alexeyev will not return to Friday night's contest against the Seattle Kraken, the team announced.
The 23-year-old left after Kraken defenceman Jamie Oleksiak caught him with a hit to the head behind the Seattle net. Oleksiak was assessed a five-minute major and a match penalty which ended his night as well.
Alexeyev registered his first-career NHL point prior to exiting, assisting on Anthony Mantha's second-period goal. It was just the youngster's fifth game this season and sixth career NHL apperance.
Oleksiak has played in 22 games for the Kraken this season, scoring four goals and adding three assists.
