Jack St. Ivany is heading south.
The Winnipeg Jets defenceman was claimed off waivers Saturday by the Washington Capitals, the team announced.
St. Ivany was waived by Winnipeg Friday in the wake of the Connor Hellebuyck trade.
The 27-year-old from Manhattan Beach, Calif., has skated in four games with the Jets this season without recording a point.
He appeared in 20 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, registering four of his nine career assists.
St. Ivany, a 2018 fourth-round pick, is still looking for his first goal after 59 games in the NHL between the Jets and Penguins.
