Washington Capitals goalie Darcy Kuemper was taken out of the game in the later stages of the second period against the Calgary Flames.
Capitals PR confirmed that the 32-year-old would not return to the game with an upper-body injury.
Kuemper appeared to leave due to concussion protocol, after Tyler Toffoli's elbow hit caught him in the head as the Flames forward tried to deflect a shot in front of the Capitals net. But according to The Athletic's Tarik El-Bashir, Kuemper pulled himself out of the game.
Backup goalie Charlie Lindgren then entered the game.
A former Colorado Avalanche netminder, Kuemper made 24 saves through the first two periods, as the Flames led 2-1 heading into the second break.
