A rare drought by the NHL's all-time shots-on-goal leader is over.
Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin hadn't recorded a shot on net for two consecutive games after Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators — the first time in his 1,350-game NHL career he had done so.
But he snapped that streak with a shot at the 6:15 mark of the first period Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens.
It might all seem like making a big deal out of nothing, but Ovechkin has gone without a shot on goal in just 19 career games.
The 38-year-old Ovechkin is off to a slow start, recording his first point of the season (an assist) on Wednesday in the team's third game of the season.
Ovechkin became the NHL's all-time shots-on-goal leader last season when he overtook Ray Bourque (6,209 shots). The Russian now stands at 6,360 shots.
