The Washington Capitals lost one of their top defencemen in Saturday's game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Rasmus Sandin was ruled out by the Capitals with a lower-body injury.
Sandin appeared to be in significant pain at the end of the first period, following a flurry of action in the Washington end.
The left-shot D-man took a big hit into the boards by Curtis Lazer before getting to his feet and blocking a shot from Ty Emberson. After time expired, Sandin's teammates helped him skate to the bench.
Sandin, 25, did return to the Capitals bench later in the game, but did not log another shift before being ruled done for the night.
A veteran of seven NHL seasons, Sandin played 5:08 before exiting, but did record an assist.
He entered Saturday's game with two goals and 14 assists in 46 games.
