Justin Sourdif will remain in Washington for the long term.
The Capitals re-signed the forward to an eight-year, $50.8 million contract on Wednesday, beating the eight-year term deadline by mere hours, the team announced on Tuesday.
The Richmond, B.C. native was acquired by the Capitals in the 2025 off-season from the Florida Panthers and spent the entire season with the NHL club, after having played only four big-league games prior to that.
“Justin is a good young forward who has continued to develop steadily throughout his career. He is versatile and demonstrated his ability to play an important forward role for our team whenever the opportunity arose last season,” said Capitals general manager Chris Patrick in a statement. “We are thrilled to sign him to a long-term contract and look forward to seeing him continue to elevate his game alongside our veteran core and our young group of players. We believe he has a bright future ahead of him and are confident that he will continue to make valuable contributions to our organization in the coming years.”
In 78 NHL games in 2025-26, Sourdif had 15 goals and 35 points and was plus-17.
As a rookie, Sourdif became just the ninth player in Capitals history to record a hat trick and the first since Alex Ovechkin did so his first year in 2006.
Sourdif, 24, was selected in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Panthers.
