The Washington Capitals announced that defenceman Lucas Johansen would play in Game 2 against the Rangers on Tuesday night, while also recalling blueliner Hardy Häman Aktell from the American Hockey League.
Johansen has appeared in six games with the Capitals this season and will be making his playoff debut, according to NHL.com's Tom Gulitti.
The 25-year-old Häman Aktell also saw action in six games with the Capitals this season, recording one assist. He has 11 points in 55 games with Hershey of the American Hockey League this season.
With Vincent Iorio going down in Game 1 (upper-body injury) and Nick Jensen and Rasmus Sandin still skating in non-contact jerseys, Häman Aktell will provide Washington with defensive depth.
The Capitals will face the Rangers in Game 2 of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series in New York. That game can be seen at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
