The Washington Capitals locked up a recent draft pick on Friday.
Defenceman Ryan Chesley agreed to a three-year entry-level contract worth up to $2.77 million, the team announced.
Chesley, 21, was selected in the second round (37th overall) in the 2022 draft.
The Mahtomedi, Minn., native played three seasons at the University of Minnesota, recording 38 points (12 goals, 26 assists) in 115 games.
He joined the Hershey Bears, Washington's AHL affiliate, on a professional tryout contract for four games to end the season.
Chesley has represented the U.S. at the world juniors twice, claiming bronze in 2023 and winning gold in 2024.
