Tom Wilson will not play Monday for the Washington Capitals but the team remains optimistic his injury isn't serious.
Head coach Spencer Carbery said Wilson is day-to-day with a lower-body injury, but he will not play when the Capitals host the Anaheim Ducks on Monday.
"When someone goes down or is being helped off the ice, you're hoping that it's something they can go in, get checked out and come back out, but also when you see situations like that, you get a little bit worried," Carbery said. "So thankful that it's just day-to-day, won't play tonight but we'll see how he is tomorrow."
Wilson was injured Saturday when he collided with Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Connor Murphy in the first period. He did not return to the game after being slow to get off the ice.
Wilson was one of 25 players named to the Canadian Olympic team last week. He leads the Capitals with 22 goals and 42 points in 41 games this season.
