The Washington Capitals have parted with a depth centre.
Nic Dowd was dealt to the Golden Knights on Thursday for goalie Jesper Vikman, a third-round pick in 2027 and a second-round pick in 2029, the teams announced.
Dowd, 35, has four goals, 12 assists and 43 blocked shots in 55 games in his eighth season in Washington. He comes with a $3 million cap hit and has one year left on his deal.
The Huntsville, Ala., native was selected in the seventh round of the 2009 draft, 198th overall. He has 192 points in his 637 career games.
Vikman, 23, was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 draft by the Golden Knights.

More information
The Swede has yet to make his NHL debut. He holds an .866 save percentage and 3.41 goals-against average in 18 games with the AHL's Henderson Silver Knights on the season.
Washington sits four points out of a wild-card spot and six points out of a division playoff berth. Vegas leads the Pacific Division by one point.
Trading Dowd signals the Capitals' intention to at least in part be sellers, sitting four points back of the second and final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference but having played three more games than Boston, which is in that position. Pending unrestricted free agent forward Brandon Duhaime and defenceman Trevor van Riemsdyk are also trade candidates for Washington.
