Washington Capitals starting goaltender Vitek Vanecek left Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Boston Bruins with a lower-body injury and will not return.
The injury occurred with 6:50 left in the first period as Vanecek attempted to make a save. The Bruins ended up scoring on the play to tie the game 1-1.
Vanecek was slow to get up after the goal and later left the ice with a trainer. The severity of the issue is not known at this time.
Former Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson took Vanecek's place in net.
