Capitals' Vitek Vanecek leaves Game 1 vs. Bruins with lower-body injury

Vitek Vanecek gets hurt on the Jake DeBrusk goal and has to leave the game as Craig Anderson gets the call with Ilya Samsonov on the COVID list

Washington Capitals starting goaltender Vitek Vanecek left Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Boston Bruins with a lower-body injury and will not return.

The injury occurred with 6:50 left in the first period as Vanecek attempted to make a save. The Bruins ended up scoring on the play to tie the game 1-1.

Vanecek was slow to get up after the goal and later left the ice with a trainer. The severity of the issue is not known at this time.

Former Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson took Vanecek's place in net.
