The agent for Arizona Coyotes captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson has informed teams involved that the defenceman has set a deadline of the start of free agency for a trade to Boston or Vancouver.
NHL free agency is set to get underway Friday at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT. If a trade to either the Bruins or Canucks is not in place by the deadline, Ekman-Larsson’s agent says the 29-year-old will be staying put in Arizona.

Ekman-Larsson has a no-movement clause as part of the eight-year, $66-million extension he signed in the summer of 2018. According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, the Coyotes have attempted to get Ekman-Larsson to expand his list of destinations he’d waive the clause for beyond Boston and Vancouver to no avail.
Getting a trade done over the coming days presents a challenge for new Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong as neither the Bruins or Canucks own 2020 first-round draft picks.
