Coyotes move up to 11th in draft after four-pick swap with Sharks, select Geekie

Watch as the Arizona Coyotes take centre Conor Geekie with the 11th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

The San Jose Sharks traded the 11th pick to Arizona for the Coyotes' 27th, 34th, and 45th overall picks.

The Coyotes then used the pick to take Conor Geekie from the Winnipeg Ice of the WHL.

Geekie is a left-handed centre from Strathclair, Man., who had 70 points in 63 games this past season. And he's big, currently listed at 6-foot-3 and 196 pounds. Geekie's brother, Morgan, plays for the Seattle Kraken, having been selected 67th overall in 2017.

The trade was Mike Grier's first as the Sharks' new general manager, having only taken the job this week.

The 34th pick was the only one that was originally Arizona's. The 27th was acquired from Carolina, via Montreal, as part of the offer sheet the Hurricanes made to Jesperi Kotkaniemi. The Canadiens then sent the pick to Arizona as part of the Christian Dvorak trade.

The 45th was part of a trade for taking Andrew Ladd from the New York Islanders.
