Arizona Coyotes forward Liam O'Brien has been fined $2,018.23, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for roughing Vancouver Canucks forward Sam Lafferty, the department of player safety announced Friday.
The incident happened in the first period after Lafferty laid a hit on Coyotes rookie Michael Kesselring. O'Brien took exception and challenged Lafferty at the Canucks bench, dropping his gloves and repeatedly punching the 28-year-old before being separated by officials.
O'Brien was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for roughing on the play.
The Canucks went on to win the fiery tilt 2-1, securing their league-leading 30th win of the season.
