The Arizona Coyotes placed Alex Galchenyuk on unconditional waivers on Thursday afternoon, seeking to terminate his contract because of an off-ice issue, Sportsnet can confirm.
The 29-year-old signed a one-year, two-way deal with Arizona as a free agent on July 1 — a mere 12 days ago.
The NHLPA has indicated it is reviewing the matter.
Galchenyuk, who was born in Milwaukee to Belarusian parents, played just 11 games with the Colorado Avalanche last season and didn't register a point. He was traded before free agency opened from Colorado to the Nashville Predators for Ryan Johansen.
