A top prospect is headed to the minors.
The New Jersey Devils announced Thursday that defenceman Simon Nemec, who was drafted second-overall in 2022, was re-assigned to the AHL's Utica Comets.
Nemec, 20, appeared in nine games with New Jersey this season, notching one assist. He played 60 games with the big-league club last season, recording three goals and 16 assists.
The six-foot-one Slovak was picked only behind countryman Juraj Slafkovsky, who went first-overall to the Montreal Canadiens, in the 2022 draft.
His 20 career points rank fourth in his draft class behind Slafkovsky, Logan Cooley (who went third-overall to the Arizona Coyotes) and Pavel Mintyukov (a fellow defenceman taken 10th by the Anaheim Ducks).
The Devils host the Canadiens on Thursday night.
