The New Jersey Devils and Chicago Blackhawks paid tribute to their former teammate Jimmy Hayes by wearing Nos. 10 and 39, respectively, in warm-ups before their game Friday night.
Hayes, 31, was found unresponsive by paramedics at his suburban Boston home on Aug. 23. The Norfolk County District Attorney's office told People magazine on Friday that foul play has been ruled out as the cause of his death.
The Devils wore sweaters with "Broadway" on the back, while the Blackhawks wore "Haysey."
Hayes, a six-foot-five right wing, was drafted in the second round (60th overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He made his NHL debut in December 2011 after a trade to the Chicago Blackhawks, putting up 109 points in 334 total games while also making stops in Florida, Boston and New Jersey.
