New Jersey Devils goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood, Detroit Red Wings forward Sam Gagner and defenceman Jon Merrill are the latest players to be added to the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list, Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports.

They will join the players who are unavailable to play or practice in accordance with the NHL's COVID-19 protocols.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman also reports that Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere and New York Islanders forward Josh Bailey.

Players can be unavailable due to COVID-19 protocols as a result of a number of factors, including: an initial positive test, which remains unconfirmed pending another result, mandated isolation for symptomatic individuals, required quarantine as a high-risk close contact, isolation based on a confirmed positive test result and/or quarantine for travel or other reasons.
