New Jersey Devils budding superstar Jack Hughes suffered an apparent left shoulder injury in Tuesday's game against the Seattle Kraken.
The injury occurred near the end of the first period. As Hughes was battling for the puck in a corner of the Seattle zone, he was knocked to the ice by the Kraken's Jeremy Lauzon. The 20-year-old was in immediate pain after the hit and but skated off the ice on his own power while cradling his left arm. He did not join his teammates for the start of the second period.
After the game, head coach Lindy Ruff said Hughes was being considered day-to-day and that he would be further evaluated Wednesday.
"He'll be evaluated (Wednesday) and we'll see where he's at," Ruff said. "I watched the hit. I don't like the way he fell. The hit itself, I couldn't find a lot to criticize. But when he went down, I've had my share of shoulder injuries, I know that when you stick your arm out something bad could happen sometimes."
Hughes had one assist in 7:42 of ice time before the injury after scoring two goals in the team's season-opening win over Chicago.
Lauzon was not given a penalty on the play.
