The New Jersey Devils have locked up some insurance in the blue paint.
The Devils agreed to a contract extension with netminder Nico Daws. It is a two-year deal worth an average annual value of $775,000 in 2024-25 and $850,000 in 2025-26.
Daws, 23, appeared in 21 games with the Devils last season, going 9-11 with a .894 save percentage.
Daws was one of five goaltenders to see the blue paint during an injury-plagued campaign for the Devils last year, carrying much of the workload between January and March after rehabbing from hip surgery in the AHL earlier in the season.
Selected by New Jersey in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Daws appeared in 64 career AHL games with the Utica Comets before becoming a regular within the Devils' goaltending rotation in 2024.
With his extension, he will join recently acquired Jakob Markstrom and Jake Allen at the position in the fall.
