New Jersey Devils star centre Nico Hischier will miss the start of training camp with a leg injury, but the issue is not expected to be long-term.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Hischier suffered the injury in off-season training but will not need surgery.
The Devils are one of seven teams who will begin training camp early -- on New Year's Eve -- due to the fact that they were left out of the NHL's summer return-to-play playoffs.
Hischier, 21, is entering his fourth season and first on a new seven-year, $50.25 million contract. He missed some time with a left knee injury last season and had 14 goals and 36 points in 58 games.
