The New Jersey Devils are being bold.
The Devils have submitted an offer sheet for centre Barrett Hayton from the Utah Mammoth, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
It marks the first submitted offer sheet of the off-season.
The Devils' offer is for one-year and $4.775 million.
If the Mammoth don't match it, they will receive a second-round pick as compensation.
Hayton, 26, recorded 10 goals and 15 assists in 67 games last season
Over 358 career NHL games, the restricted free agent from Peterborough, Ont., has posted 155 points (65 goals and 90 assists).
He was a fifth overall pick in 2018 by the Arizona Coyotes.
Once a player signs an offer sheet, their team has seven days to either match it or let them go.
