The Anaheim Ducks are clearing some cap space as they push for a playoff spot.
The Ducks have traded veteran centre Ryan Strome to the Calgary Flames, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Friday.
The Flames sent a 2027 seventh-round pick to Anaheim in return.
Strome, 32, has been in a big slump this season with three goals and six assists in 33 games. He missed the first month of the season with an upper-body injury.
The Ducks have missed the playoffs in the last seven seasons but are in contention for a spot in the Pacific Division.
Strome is in the fourth year of a five-year contract with a $5 million AAV. The Ducks can now pivot to add some other talent for the playoff race, or use the cap space to sign rising stars Leo Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier to extensions.
