The Calgary Flames' captain is sidelined for the moment.
Head coach Ryan Huska told reporters Tuesday that Mikael Backlund is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, per Sportsnet's Eric Francis.
Backlund exited in the final minutes of Sunday's 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes after taking a hit from William Carrier.
He wasn't on the ice for practice Tuesday morning.
The 37-year-old Swede has one goal and one assist in eight games this season.
The Flames play the Minnesota Wild next on Thursday at home.
