The Calgary Flames added American forward Cullen Potter to their 2025 draft class on Friday night.
Calgary closed out the first round with its selection of Potter, grabbing the Arizona State University product with the 32nd overall pick.
Potter is a five-foot-10 left-shot winger who scored 13 goals and nine assists in 35 games for the Sun Devils in 2024-25.
Sportsnet's Jason Bukala had Potter ranked as the No. 24 prospect in the draft class, projecting him as a middle-six forward.
"Potter is an undersized forward who’s very explosive in open ice, leading the rush. He’s not tall, but he’s very strong for his stature," his rankings said.
Potter is the son of former American National Team member Jenny Schmidgall-Potter. Jenny won gold with Team USA at the 1998 Nagano Games and five additional gold medals across various international tournaments over a 17-year playing career.
Cullen, meanwhile, made the decision to begin his collegiate career at just 17 years old. In 2024-25, he also represented the U.S. at the U-18 World Championships, scoring four goals and adding eight points in seven games.
Flames Hall of Famer Lanny McDonald announced both of Calgary's picks on the night.
The pick originally belonged to the Florida Panthers, but was conveyed to the Flames this season to satisfy the requirements of the 2022 trade that sent Matthew Tkachuk to the Eastern Conference.
It was the Flames' second pick of the first round. They selected centre Cole Reschny with the 18th pick earlier in the evening.
