When the St. Louis Blues couldn't make a save on the ice, their video team thankfully had their back.
The Calgary Flames had three goals wiped off the board due to successful challenges from the Blues — two for offside and one for a missed stoppage due to a high stick.
The first disallowed goal came in the first period, after Flames forward Martin Pospisil thought he doubled his team's lead. Not so, said video review, which revealed that Kevin Bahl was offside on the play as he attempted to keep the puck in the zone.
Then, Yegor Sharangovich thought he reclaimed the lost goal by potting one of his own. Not so fast, as officials later determined that Connor Zary hit the puck with a high stick prior to the goal, and thus, play should have been called dead.
Surely, the third time's the charm, correct?
Well, not quite, as Joel Farabee's second-period snipe came off the board due to the fact that he was offside as he entered the zone.
Blues bench boss Jim Montgomery becomes the first coach to win three challenges since former Edmonton Oilers coach won three of his own against the San Jose Sharks in March 2023.
Not to worry, though, as the Flames went on to win the game 2-1 in the shootout, with goals from Farabee and Matvei Gridin securing the victory.
