The Calgary Flames will have their No. 1 goaltender in the crease for their season opener against the Colorado Avalanche Thursday as Jacob Markstrom gets the nod.
Markstrom was previously questionable to start after he missed practice Wednesday due to an illness.
Asked Wednesday if Markstrom would start, head coach Darryl Sutter said: "I don’t even have one year of medical school."
Markstrom is a key player for the Flames. Last season, the 32-year-old played 62 games and posted a .922 save percentage, earning him Vezina Trophy consideration.
