A newly acquired prospect is ready to enter pro hockey with the Calgary Flames organization.
Cornell forward Jonathan Castagna has signed a three-year, entry-level deal with the club, the Flames announced Monday.
The deal, with an average annual value of $1.075 million, begins in the 2026-27 season. He'll report to the AHL's Calgary Wranglers on a PTO for the remainder of this season, but Castagna is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
The Flames acquired Castagna on March 4 from the Utah Mammoth in the MacKenzie Weegar deal. He was picked in the third round (70th overall) by the then-Arizona Coyotes in the 2023 NHL Draft.
The Toronto native led Cornell in scoring with 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 34 games in his third season with the Big Red.
The six-foot-two Castagna, 20, earned a spot on the All-ECAC first team and was named the ECAC’s best defensive forward.
Cornell was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA tournament by Denver.
