The Calgary Flames continued to shape their opening-night roster, reducing their training-camp group to 27 players on Friday.
The Flames assigned seven players to the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers, while placing eight others on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the American Hockey League.
Among the players assigned to the Wranglers were forward Andrew Basha and defenceman Hunter Brzustewicz.
The Flames also assigned forwards Jonathan Castagna, Will Dineen and Tyson Gross, defenceman Axel Hurtig and goaltender Arsenii Sergeev to the Wranglers.
Among players placed on waivers to be sent down to the AHL were defencemen Michael Benning, Andreas Englund and Jake Livingstone, along with forwards Dryden Hunt, Ben Jones, Rory Kerins, Sam Morton and William Stromgren.
The Flames also assigned forward Chase Harrington to the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League.
Calgary has three goaltenders, eight defencemen and 16 forwards remaining at camp before they open the regular season on Thursday against the Seattle Kraken (Sportsnet, 7 p.m. MT / 9 p.m. ET).
