Philadelphia Flyers forward Kevin Hayes had successful core muscle surgery last week, the team announced Wednesday.

The expected recovery time is five weeks, keeping Hayes in line to be ready for training camp.

Hayes is coming off the second season of a seven-year, $50-million contract signed in 2019. The six-foot-five centre had a career-low 12 goals and 31 points in 55 games this season.

The Flyers posted a 25-23-8 record this season and missed the playoffs in the East Division.
