The Philadelphia Flyers were one of several National Hockey League teams that opted to keep things on the quieter side during this year's trade deadline.
Their moves included a trade that saw Zack MacEwan sent to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Brendan Lemieux and a fourth-round pick at the 2024 NHL Draft, and a trade that sent Patrick Brown to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a 2023 sixth-round pick.
Leading up to March 3, their only other move was sending Isaac Ratcliffe to the Nashville Predators — for future considerations.
Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher received some heat from fans for the lack of trade deadline action, and more specifically, his inability to trade away James van Riemsdyk.
"Chuck Fletcher kind of got beaten up a little bit (Saturday) at the Philadelphia Flyers town hall, and the cry out there (Friday) was about James van Riemsdyk and the inability to make trades," said Jeff Marek during Saturday's 32 Thoughts segment on Hockey Night in Canada.
"But the Flyers have a lot of players that have a term attached to them. And while there were conversations between Philadelphia and Columbus over players like Kevin Hayes, it sounds more like any deal that the Philadelphia Flyers are going to make will happen around the draft and wasn't going to happen at trade deadline."
So, while Flyers fans may have been unhappy to see their team — who sit 25th in the league — stay quiet, they'll likely have some bigger moves during the off-season to look forward to.
