The Philadelphia Flyers have signed centre Scott Laughton to a five-year contract extension with a $3-million AAV.
Laughton’s name appeared in the rumour mill ahead of Monday’s NHL trade deadline, but Philadelphia opted to retain his services. The would-be UFA was garnering interest around the league thanks to his versatility, affordable cap hit, and ability to bring some grit to the lineup. Intrigue around the Flyers’ approach to Monday’s deadline was high — the club has been underperforming and currently sit in sixth place in the East Division, four points off pace for a playoff spot.
The 26-year-old has seven goals and 10 assists through 38 games with the Flyers in 2020-21.
